Friday Song!

Happy holiday Friday!

It’s not really a holiday movie, but I usually like watching Beautiful Girls around this time of year (you can check it out streaming on Netflix). Maybe I like it so much because it’s about a guy coming home, then he drinks a lot, sees a couple a-holes he liked, and a couple a-holes he didn’t like.

It’s really the stuff that any Gen-Y kid coming home for the holidays can relate to, and I’m looking forward to doing it in a week’s time.

Anyway, this week’s Friday Song is from that movie. “Beautiful Girl” by Pete Droge & The Sinners. Happy Friday!

An appropriate Friday Song for the first Friday in December …

She’s not my favorite person (camel toe!), and it may look like she’s sporting some star-shaped nips, but I do really like this song and this version with Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, and some pop-up background singers is pretty brilliant. Happy holidays and Happy Friday!

I’m back in Brooklyn this weekend to be a brides man (not a typo) in my friend’s wedding, so I’m declaring this THE WEEKEND OF LOOOOOOOOOVE and have chosen a Friday Song accordingly.

There aren’t many times in life when the initials of your friends getting married is BJ + JHJ (no joke!), so this Friday love theme goes out to them.

Most of us recognize this song from the stellar Drive soundtrack. I’m not super into the video, but the song has a great porn-groove vibe to it that I love.

Happy Friday, y’all! Love is in the air!!!

Update: It’s an abridged version of the song. Get the full version here complete with hipster-girl-mid-song conversation.

This week’s Friday Song is a good one to listen to when you’re feeling overkill from the holidays.

Happy Friday!

I don’t usually mean to get all slow-jammy with Friday Songs, but I just love this throwback gem. Good way to ease into the weekend.

Happy Friday!

(Sidenote: Any idea what Billy Idol’s rocker lip is looking like these days? I think the last time I saw him was in The Wedding Singer.)

#HaircutDay is probably my favorite day of the month. When I’m walking to my barber, I actually try to listen to this song.

Because I’m in New York this week and because Robert at King’s on 14th Street NYC is the best barber in the world, “Hairdresser On Fire” is this week’s Friday Song.

Happy Friday!

Originally, the Friday Song was supposed to be a new song by Solange Knowles (aka Basement Baby) because I really liked how it sounded very Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam-ish and I liked the art direction, but then I decided that the Friday Song should really just be actual Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam.

Anyway, happy Friday! (If you want, check out “Losing You” by Solange here.)

I reserve the right to pick a guilty please for a Friday Song every now and then, so … ABBA it is! The Youtubes were blessed enough to have this video uploaded in high-definition for your viewing pleasure.

Look at that Swede slappin’ da bass with his luscious locks! Love. it.

Look at Agnetha Fältskog (the blonde) wearing a copper lamé visor! Love. it. even. more.

CORRECTION: Turns out those are just headphones on her head. Damn.

I’ve always loved Hot Chip, but I totally fell in love with them when I saw them live years back at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The way they recreate their sound live and in front of an audience is amazing.

This is from the album just before their current release, so it’s been around for a bit, but I think it’s a great Friday Song given the title. (I really love the steel drum breakdown at the 1:30 mark.)

I stumbled across this song back from when Santigold was still Santogold. I saw the video once — it’s kind of a cool bit of design. Technically, it’s still summer too, so the song itself should put you in a good f**k-it-all Friday mood — appropriate for a Friday Song, no? Happy Friday!!!

(Santigold’s line “I find your approach so adolescent / I may look young but your game is pre-pubescent” is pretty great.)

This song is from 2010 I think? It just came on on my computer, forgot how much I like it and how nice it is to hear Boy George. The video is really cool — made from 80’s-looking VHS footage.

I think it makes a good Friday Song. Happy Friday!
