So sad the tales of Lesbian Yellow-Sour-Fruit are ending tonight.

Check out this really interesting video by The Verge about Google’s improved design sensibility.

A lot, lot, lot has been made of the war between Apple and Google; iOS and Android, and I’ve definitely taken a stance, but it’s easy to overlook the fact that this whole back-and-forth is a real win for the design industry.

I know I’m not the first one by any means to highlight this trend, but I just want to reiterate how this whole thing makes me happy as both a designer and a consumer. I mean, it’s really upping our value as professional designers as companies shift from seeing design as just the pretty finishing touches to a part of the backbone of what makes a company, product, or service great.

Anyway, reeling in this rant … companies are making great strides in the area of design … that makes me excited to see what’s going to produced as a result … and that makes me happy.

I like Ji Lee‘s projects. They’re simple in concept and really engaging (the first one that comes to mind is his Bubble Project that led to a whole load of knock offs similarly-inspired guerrilla art projects). His newest project, Word as Image, uses typography to define the words meaning.

I have major, major love for side projects and the sanity they help you maintain, so seeing a project like this bring turned into a neat video and published book makes me happy.

Walking Dead iOS

If you’re deathly bored at work and you happen to have an iPhone or iPad, Walking Dead: The Game is free on iTunes (for a limited time, I’m assuming).

It has good reviews, so download it, lock yourself in your office bathroom, and go to town! On the game.

Download it here.

Beer

If you’re a designer and your friends think you drink too much, here’s THE article.

This just made my life.

(Note: if you, by chance, work in HR — PLEASE forward this onto your creative department. It will save both you and your creatives a lot of grief.)

iTunes 11

More free stuff for this Weekend of Love!

Apple released iTunes 11 — the design is much improved and is a lot, lot faster apparently. Download it now, seems like they’ve done a pretty good job with the redesign.

If you don’t believe me, BuzzFeed smushed together 3 Ways the New iTunes Sucks Less. It’s a good Friday read because … uh … it’s only 3 items long.

The Rise and Fall of Tech Empires

I think Facebook is a little long in the tooth. It’s become more of a chore than something enjoyable and all it takes is a (relatively) small group of core users to leave for it to start it’s decline, which I think is already happening. That’s just my opinion though …

This infographic featured on The Tech Block shows the rise and fall of online empires. Will Facebook make it past this 11-year tech empire bust? They keep f-ing with security and layout changes, so I say they’re not far off. Question is — what’s the next big thing?

I’ve loved Hot Chip since my intern days in London and I think it’s been document here before. They’re one of those few groups where I’ll buy their albums regardless because they’re always trying new things.

This is the video from their latest album, In Our Heads. It features a pretty great combination of stuff: video game + footballers + footballers making out. I think that’s a winning combo all around and makes it worthy of a viewing in my book. Enjoy.

These Are Things 3

I was just doing some Christmas shopping, so naturally I got distracted and found a bunch of stuff for myself.

I LOVE this world map by These Are Things. I’ve been looking for a good map for my office space as a nod to this past year of travel and design. I’ve been looking for a vintage map this whole time, but after seeing this I think I may go vintage-style print.

Sustainable Thanksgiving Infographic

I recently had a conversation with my close friend E over at Work Freely Blog about sustainability and how to incorporate it into everyday business practice.

I asked her really pertinent questions like, “What’s that?” and “Can you use smaller words?

Long story short — E’s expertise paid off because she won me over and is going to help me figure out how pick up my sustainability game.

Anyway, I saw this sustainability infographic on GOOD on how to have a sustainable Thanksgiving (or any food-related holiday for that matter) and thought it’d be a great, graphically-inclined post to lead into the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m a little late to this …  but when I left New York over a year ago, my friend E sent me a link to “New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” by LCD Soundsystem. I love the song, but it still brings me the super sads when I hear it.

This viral YouTube duet uploaded by Alessandro Grespan features LCD and Miles Davis and has seemingly been around for a bit, but has been blowing up this week.

You’ll notice in the description that there’s “no editing or other tricks, just 2 youtube videos played at the same time,” which makes it kind of mind blowing. How did this even happen??? Amazing.
